Sweet Milk Bread

Sweet Milk Bread

Sweet Milk Bread (Külçe)

Makes 6 breads

25 g (2 tablespoons) butter
250 ml (1 cup) milk
2 tablespoons sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon dry yeast
500 g (3⅓ cups) flour

1. Melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the milk and sugar. Turn off the heat once the milk is warm.

2. Pour the milk mixture into a bowl. Add the egg, salt, yeast and flour, and make a soft dough. Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces and roll each piece between your palms into a ball. Cover the dough balls with a kitchen towel and allow to rest for 20 minutes.

3. Preheat the oven to 250°C (482°F). Roll out the dough balls into 14 cm rounds. Transfer the breads onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Poke holes all over the top of the breads with a fork and brush them with water. Bake on the middle oven rack until golden brown, about 15 minutes.

Thank you DeAnna! I used a special fork from Turkmenistan that’s designed for pricking bread. Forgot to include it in the picture.
